RES MGRS ("the App") is a location-based mobile application designed for Finnish military reservists to display precise MGRS (Military Grid Reference System) coordinates using Finnish topographic maps. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your location data.

The App collects precise location data (GPS coordinates) from your device to provide its core functionality:

How We Use Your Location Data

Show Position on Map: Display your current location on Finnish topographic maps
Calculate Distance & Bearing: Measure distance and direction from your position to map center or pinned locations
Point-to-Point Measurement: Calculate distances between multiple locations you mark on the map
Data Storage and Sharing
We DO NOT:

Your location data is:

Third-Party Services
Map Tiles
The App downloads map tiles from Maanmittauslaitos (National Land Survey of Finland) at avoin-karttakuva.maanmittauslaitos.fi:
What they may collect: Your device's IP address and requested tile coordinates (through standard HTTP server logs)
What they can infer: Approximate geographic area you are viewing based on map tiles requested
Purpose: To display authentic Finnish topographic maps
The App does not send your precise GPS coordinates to Maanmittauslaitos—only generic map tile requests.
Offline Maps
When you download maps for offline use:
Downloaded map tiles are stored locally on your device
No location data is transmitted during offline map usage
You can delete offline maps at any time through the App's Offline Maps page
Permissions Required
Location Permission (Required)
Why required: The App's core purpose is displaying MGRS coordinates based on your location
When requested: On first launch
How to revoke: Through your device's Settings → Apps → RES MGRS → Permissions
Internet Permission (Optional)
Why needed: To download map tiles and offline maps
When used: Only when downloading maps; not required for basic coordinate display
Offline mode: Full functionality available without internet once maps are downloaded
Data Retention
The App does not retain any location data. All location information is:
Processed in device memory only
Cleared when you close the App
Not written to device storage
Not transmitted to any servers
Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your location data:
Deny permission: The App will not function without location access, but you can deny it at any time
Revoke permission: Remove location access through device settings
Delete the App: Removes all associated data from your device
Use offline: Download maps once, then disable internet to prevent any network requests
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 years of age. The App is designed for Finnish military reservists who are adults.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
